Bruno Mars is a very popular man lately; ever since his performance on the Super Bowl Halftime Show on February 2, and when he recently appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show .
The video of Mars pranking an unsuspecting nurse that was filmed while the musician waited for his turn to come on set has gone viral.
The hilarious clip shows Bruno Mars talking to the nurse, who is supposedly treating him for a sore throat as he talks all the nonsense Ellen is speaking into his ear piece.
Mars, tells the woman he hasn’t swallowed since being done with the Super Bowl performance and about the shape of Pringles potato chips cans.
The funniest moments happen when Ellen goes silent and Bruno Mars is just sitting there in silence as well, the nurse looks confused.
The woman apparently didn’t watch the Super Bowl or his halftime performance and doesn’t know who he is.
Bruno Mars joked that she doesn’t know of him because he doesn’t have his own fragrance, referring to a New York Times critic who was very critical of his selection as halftime star.
During his conversation with Ellen she asked him about getting the call to be the main act at the Super Bowl.
“How do you say no?” the 28-year-old Mars said. “It’s very early in my career. I only have two albums, but tomorrow’s not promised, so I had to go for it.”
Most halftime show numbers have starred veterans with established names in the music industry as Madonna, The Who, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Tom Petty, and most famously Michael Jackson.
It is understandable that some did not see how the show’s organizers could have chosen Bruno Mars to bring his music to millions who tune to see the show every year.
In the article, the New York magazine critic, Jody Rosen questions whether Bruno Mars was the right choice for the Super Bowl Halftime show and suggested that Mars had not made an effort to make a bigger celebrity of his name.
Rosen added:
“…you have to sprinkle your stardust across all these different platforms. Not just the concert stage and the record, but the red carpet and the paparazzi shot, your clothing line, and your fragrance.”
Bruno Mars dubbed the comment ‘disgusting’:
“I did hear that, and I think that was by far the most disgusting thing I’ve heard,” he told DeGeneres. “Not because it was taking a shot at me, but I was just thinking about aspiring young musicians.”
He then asked Ellen if he could make a statement explaining his position to which she agreed.
“Listen, if music is what you want to do; if it is your love and your passion, it doesn’t take a fragrance, it’s not about the tabloids. It’s about you putting in the work, practicing every day, and hopefully one day you write the song the whole world wants to get down to. And one day you’re going to be sitting next to Ellen DeGeneres talking about how you broke records and rocked the Super Bowl!”
After his impassioned speech, Bruno Mars got up from his guest chair and charged the audience hugging and kissing many lucky ones, while the theme of Rocky played in the background. He joked afterwards, “With that being said, I have a fragrance coming out this fall.”
