Brock Lesnar, Christian? The Evidence Is Piling Up

Brock Lesnar isn’t the type of guy who likes to go around making public appearances and sharing his personal beliefs. But if you’re watching closely, you can tell a lot about the Beast Incarnate from his rare interviews and public appearances.

Yahoo ! once quoted Lesnar as saying this of his private life.

“I just don’t put myself out there to the fans and prostitute my private life to everybody. In today’s day and age, with the Internet and cameras and cell phones, I just like being old school and living in the woods and living my life. I came from nothing and at any moment, you can go back to having nothing.”

Lesnar continued to push this asocial narrative on the WWE Network edition of the Stone Cold Podcast , but as HollowVerse points out , he has a history of being an “unapologetic Republican,” and Republicans often identify with Christianity as far as religious beliefs go.

Also, he has slammed Canada’s healthcare system in the past, and while that doesn’t necessarily prove Brock Lesnar is Christian in the traditional sense of the word, it does ingrain him more toward right-leaning policies, as does his love for hunting.

Here’s a quick aside that is, nonetheless, related. At one point in the interview, fans reported that it sounded like Brock Lesnar said he was gifted a hunting rifle by Christians-in-Arms, but that’s inaccurate. It should be “Christensen Arms,” a firearms manufacturer.

Still, there are other clues in the podcast that indicate Lesnar probably has Christian beliefs. When discussing his diverticulitis scare, he says that he “thanks God every day” that his fever broke before the doctor conducted surgery on him, and ended his chance of ever fighting or doing anything physical for a living.

Unlike his persona in the ring, he also confessed that he “is humbled every day” by different things, citing his children as a big source of that humility and then talking about another humbling experience — his time in the NFL.

This wasn’t the first time that Brock Lesnar had discussed his brief stint in the National Football League, but it was perhaps his most candid and revealing as he admitted that it was a failure and that there were many other guys playing in the League, who were just better than he was.

He also said that NFL Training Camp — he was there for the full 8 weeks — was one of “the toughest physical things I’ve ever done in my life.”

It’s unlikely that Brock Lesnar would be discussing things like humility — a central command of the Christian faith — and “thanking God every day” if he was atheist.

No other belief systems really fit with what he has allowed to be known about his persona publicly.

At the same time, if it’s true that Brock Lesnar is a Christian, he’s a pretty different kind. For starters, he readily admits that he doesn’t like people, though it isn’t clear whether that’s because he despises their character or if he’s just uncomfortable in large groups of people (or both — probably both).

He also admitted that he wasn’t a lot different in real life than he is in the ring, that he wants to hurt the Undertaker “for real” at Hell in a Cell , and that as a kid and all through growing up, he “was the bully.”

(Okay, some might say that does fit in with Christianity, at least those of a certain type.)
