Breaking Bad returned Sunday night with a huge audience. More than 5.9 million people tuned in to watch the mid-season premiere last night with nearly 3.6 million of those viewers in the coveted 18-49 demographic.
According to the Chicago Tribune, that’s more than a 100% increase than the season-five premiere last Summer.
AMC’s president Chalie Collier said that it was the largest audience ever for Breaking Bad.
Collier said: “For Breaking Bad to continue to deliver record-setting ratings in its fifth and final season is remarkable… Our new series, Low Winter Sun , is off to a strong start, and we have successfully launched another after-show in Talking Bad , which will super-serve Breaking Bad fans all the way through these final episodes.”
Last night’s ratings are pretty impressive considering that the first season of Breaking Bad averaged just over 1 million viewers.
Bryan Cranston were on the top of their game last night and it showed on social media sites like Twitter. E! Online reports that close to 760,000 tweets were sent during the premiere last night at 11,799 tweets per minute.
The show also helped AMC’s new show Low Winter Sun and Talking Bad grab some great ratings. More than 2.5 million tuned in to watch Low Winter Sun and another 1.2 million stayed on AMC to watch the Talking Bad.
