Boston Red Sox rumors deal with a Hanley Ramirez injury from Sunday, August 2. The Red Sox took Ramirez out of the game after he fouled a ball off his knee. Later inn the at-bat, he was able to get a hit, but left the game for pinch-runner, Alejandro De Aza. A report from CBS Sports revealed that this all took place in the eighth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays.
It was good that Ramirez was at least able to finish the at-bat, but there is going to be a lot of grumbling from fans and MLB analysts about how often he gets hurt. Ramirez only played in 92 games during the 2011 MLB season, 86 games in 2013, and 128 games in 2014. Through 92 games this year, he has a .263 batting average, with 19 home runs, 50 RBIs, and 55 runs scored. Those are pretty good numbers, but maybe not worthy of the huge offseason contract the Red Sox gave him. As previously reported by the Inquisitr , the front office opened the checkbook to sign Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval to expensive deals.
There were other Boston Red Sox rumors about Hanley Ramirez just last week, where a report from CBS Sports stated he was dealing with a shin problem. His return to action didn’t last very long, and it’s now possible that he could miss at least a few more games for the Red Sox. This isn’t going to be a positive sign for fans or fantasy baseball owners that may have heavily invested in him for the 2015 MLB season.
An update is expected to come from the Red Sox later on Sunday, but the next injury report on Ramirez might not be released until Monday, August 3. Since the Red Sox have an off day, it’s possible that they wait to re-evaluate him until after any swelling has gone down. There was a rumor that he might have hurt his hamstring running to first base in the eighth inning, but no confirmation has come on that story. For now, it appears that he is dealing with the shin injury and now this knee injury.
This is not the time where the Red Sox want to be without one of the best hitters on the roster. A three-game series against the New York Yankees begins on Tuesday, August 4, when the team starts an extended road trip. Having a healthy Hanley Ramirez in the lineup would give the team a much better shot at getting out of last place in the American League East. Despite these rough Boston Red Sox rumors, the team still managed to win the weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays. The hope of making the postseason isn’t lost yet.
