Watertown, MA — Dzhokar Tsarnaev, known as suspect #2 in the Boston Marathon bombing, has been found in a boat in a backyard in Watertown.
At the moment, details are unclear how law enforcement was led to the home at 67 Franklin Street, but what is known is that a resident called and said there was blood on the boat, and possibly a live person inside. The blood could possibly be from an injury the suspect sustained during last night’s gunfight, which claimed the life of an MIT campus police officer, 26-year-old Sean Collier . Also killed in the fight was suspect #1, 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev.
Just about two hours ago, officials lifted the “stay in place” lockdown that had been in effect since this morning, and shortly afterward, reports came in that 19-year-old Tsarnaev was cornered in the boat. As law enforcement officials began approaching the boat, several “pops” were heard .
Law enforcement officials from several different branches — including ATF, SWAT, and Boston and Watertown police — are proceeding with caution because it is unclear if Tsarnaev is wearing a suicide vest.
The scene has been fairly quiet since it was reported that Tsarnaev had been found, and it is unclear at this point in time what the next step is for authorities. However, it is known that the goal is to take Tsarnaev alive.
We will have more on this story as more details emerge.
