Bob Beckel, the liberal co-host of The Five on Fox News , claimed fellow host Kimberly Guilfoyle made “treasonous” comments about President Barack Obama. A heated debate on the Wednesday afternoon episode of the popular show provoked quite a bit of buzz on social networking websites.
Kimberly Guilfoyle had this to say about how President Obama handles foreign policy:
“This is the problem. I just don’t think he understands, honestly, I really don’t think he has a grasp on what it means to have a cohesive, coherent foreign policy of how to combat the war on terror. We cannot go around to our enemies, ‘Let me hug you and then let me drone you.’”
Once the conservative co-host of The Five finished her comment, Bob Beckel quickly fired back.
“That’s treasonous, what you said!”
Guilfoyle did not walk back her statement about how she views President Obama’s foreign policy plan.
“Al Qaeda is everywhere now,” she said with vigor that equaled Beckel’s.
Fellow host and former press secretary to President George W. Bush, Dana Perino, agreed with Kimberly Guilfoyle that Al Qaeda affiliate groups have “spread all over” during President Obama’s time in office.
Beckel, who is prone to unleashing his temper on the Fox News show, also said, “It [foreign policy critique of President Obama] is not accurate! The way you guys treat the President of the United Sates is abysmal and disgusting!”
Conservative social media posters were quick to point out that liberals commentators, noting especially those on MSNBC , treated President George W. Bush with at least the same level of ire during his administration.
Some of Bob Beckel’s more colorful and backlash garnering comments during his time on The Five :
“Grover Norquist, that little dumpy guy down on K Street, now there’s a guy who ought to be sent to Gitmo as a terrorist for being a national security threat to the United States.
“When was the last time you heard about a rape on campus? Rampant? That’s one thing, date rape, but you’re going to take out your gun and shoot your date?”
“I don’t know any Democrat who has called George Bush a liar.”
Beckel once served a member of the Peace Corps, was a deputy assistant to the secretary of state during the Jimmy Carter administration. He also worked on Walter Mondale’s presidential campaign.
