YouTube doomsday prophets are warning that the rare blue moon event on Saturday, May 21, 2016 could be a sign of the apocalypse. The blue moon, according to doomsday conspiracy theorists, could be an omen of evil to befall Earth.
However, astronomers say that a blue moon is not a harbinger of catastrophe being simply a term used in reference to an “extra” full moon in a season. It refers, specifically, to the third of four full moons in a season — that is, spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
A season normally has three full moons, but occasionally it has four. When this happens, the third full moon is termed a blue moon.
But the term is also used less accurately in reference to the second of two full moons in a single calendar month. Some trace the origin of this alternative use of the term to a March, 1946, issue of Sky & Telescope .
The term has nothing to do with the color of the moon during the event. But occasionally, the moon may appear with a blue tinge due to unrelated atmospheric conditions, such as when particles caused by volcanic eruptions or a conflagration scatter of red light.
The term is also used in reference to any rare event because of its relative rarity.
Bonnie, a Canadian psychic and tarot card reader, who manages the YouTube channel known as “The Sacred Love Oracle,” voiced concern about Saturday’s blue moon in a message uploaded to her channel on May 11, 2016.
In the message, Bonnie revealed she was worried about the upcoming event because she has felt “negative energies.” But she was uncertain why she felt “negative energies.”
“I’m going to start with the oracle card for this full moon for this month,” she began . “There are energies now that are bothering me, I am becoming more sensitive. There is something there that is not really great for everyone. Something is wrong, something is not right. I feel something is bad.”
Other online doomsday conspiracy theorists, including Nemesis Maturity , suggested that the blue moon is significant because of the traditional association of the event with odd or deranged behavior and bizarre paranormal phenomena, such as the werewolf transformation legend.

“Since ancient times, full moons have been associated with odd or insane behavior, including sleepwalking, illegal activity, fits of violence, and, of course, transforming into werewolves,” Nemesis Maturity explained .
Some doomsday conspiracy theorists suggested it was a harbinger of the Planet X/Nibiru cataclysm, a reference to a large rogue planet that some believe will soon pass into the inner solar system wreaking havoc.
However, a few online psychics and astrologers did not foresee any catastrophe linked to the event. For instance, astrologer Ezra Sandzer-Bell, writing on the blog Evolve and Ascend , noted only that blue moons often precede rare events on Earth and that the sun and Venus in opposition to Saturday’s blue moon and Mars have astrological significance.
“Notice how the Sun in 1st degree Gemini is in almost total opposition to the 29 degree Moon in Scorpio,” he writes.
“With moon in Scorpio opposing sun in Gemini, we can expect high levels of emotional intensity to surface and challenge our mental ego,” he adds.
This is not the first time that doomsday mongers have raised alarm about the rare phenomenon.
Last year, doomsday prophets predicted that the coincidence of the blue moon with the blood moon tetrad that occurred in September, 2015, was a message from God that the world was about to end catastrophically.
According to the YouTube doomsday prophet Pastor Paul Begley, the rare blue moon event coming ahead of the last of the tetrad was a sign of the apocalypse that leads to the second coming of Jesus and Armageddon.
