Whether it’s because they are buried underneath an immense amount of titles, or because they seem somewhat dated, some of the best movies on Netflix are often overlooked. Whether you are looking for a powerful drama, a gripping thriller, or a laugh-out-loud comedy, there are plenty of Netflix movies that you may have missed. In addition, Netflix has also released the results of a study and it reveals what movies are viewed after a person binges on a particular series. This may give you some ideas of what to watch while in between shows.
The Most Popular Netflix Movies To Watch After Binging On A Series
As Entertainment Weekly reported, a study was held to see what Netflix movies people watch after they binge on a particular series.
“While the streaming service still isn’t releasing ratings for their shows, they have compiled an interesting list of statistics related to viewers’ binging habits. Netflix’s research has found that upon completing a binge of a TV show, more than 30 million viewers choose to watch a movie before jumping into a new series.”
Taking a breather before another Netflix binge makes sense, but what movies people are deciding to watch after viewing a particular series is interesting. One might assume that if someone just binged on a serious series, like House of Cards or Narcos , they may want something lighter. Or if they binged on something goofy for a while, like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt , they may want something a bit more serious. But as seen in the diagram below, that’s not the case.
The Best Netflix Movies That Are Overlooked
The Sacrament
Ti West has created some of the best horror movies and thrillers of the last decade, yet somehow they sometimes tend to go overlooked. You’re Next , The Innkeepers , and House of the Devil all received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, as did The Sacrament . West has a knack for creating movies that feel very real, and they also feel like the atmosphere that they are portraying. In House of the Devil , the story takes place in the ’80s, and it feels very much like the decade; he even filmed the movie using equipment from the ’80s.
All found-footage horror movies are supposed to feel real, but in The Sacrament , Ti does this perhaps better than anyone. This is a slow-build film that pays off in the end, and it is absolutely unnerving. RogerEbert.com explains why this is one of the best Netflix movies that is overlooked.
“West is such a technically accomplished filmmaker, and his cast of semi-regulars so committed to the narrative, that the resultant movie gives enough unsettling atmosphere and upsetting gut-level shock that this viewer didn’t mind too much all the stuff he wasn’t getting… not only will ‘The Sacrament’ creep you out, it’ll also make you want to shower.”
Grosse Pointe Blank
For decades, John Cusack has entertained audiences by portraying a variety of characters; perhaps the most entertaining of his roles is as a hitman who is also of moral character. This charming black comedy is sure to entertain audiences, and it is one of the best movies on Netflix.
Morituri
This political thriller stars Marlon Brando and many consider it one of his best performances. Co-starring Yul Brynner, Morituri tells the story of a German who is blackmailed into impersonating an SS officer.

Kung Fury
With a runtime of 30 minutes, this isn’t so much one of the best movies as it is one of the best shorts on Netflix. For those that skipped this title because it simply looks ridiculous — well — it is! But it’s also very funny and nostalgic. If you ever played video games in the ’80s, or watched action movies and series from that decade, then you owe it to yourself to watch this gem.
In the Loop
In the Loop is about how the U.S. and the U.K. are on the verge of invading Iraq, and the hilarious chaos that ensues between the two governments as they try to figure out the answer as to whether or not they should invade. Co-starring the late James Gandolfini, this is one of the funniest movies on Netflix.
The Debt
This thriller is one of the best movies on Netflix, out of any genre, and it stars the brilliant Helen Mirren. Movies don’t always live up to their trailers, especially thrillers, but this one absolutely does.
Barton Fink
The Coen brothers have created some of the most entertaining movies of the last several decades, and this gem often goes unnoticed by modern audiences. John Goodman and John Turturro co-star in this film that features the Coen brother’s usual tropes: hidden meanings, dark comedy, a specific era in American history, and an unusual main character.
Mother
If you like lighthearted comedy-dramas then this is the film for you. A twice-divorced author moves back in with his mother to figure out why his past relationships failed. The chemistry between Albert Brookes and Debbie Reynolds is brilliant, and most likely by the end of this film you will feel inspired.
Quiz Show
Another film featuring John Turturro, Quiz Show tells the compelling true story about the scandal of the ’50s game show Twenty One . Ralph Fiennes co-stars in this film that received great praise from both critics and audiences.
August: Osage County
George Clooney co-produced this powerful drama written by Tracy Letts (based on his Pulitzer-Prize-winning play), and it features an all-star cast: Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Sam Shepard.
