COMMENTARY – The reaction to the so-called Benghazi bombshell from CNN is starting to pour in.
Days after White House press secretary Jay Carney wrote off Benghazi as a phony scandal, it’s baaack thanks to CCN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper.
Check out the top video about the CNN claim broadcast on Thursday night. As you can see, they alleged the CIA was involved in a large operation at Benghazi on the night of the attack.
What were they doing there? Nobody’s sure.
It must sometimes seem like America has the leakiest intelligence operations since the dawn of humanity. But apparently once in awhile the CIA actually screws up and keeps something on the downlow.
And CNN said CIA agents are now being subjected to an unusually large number of polygraph tests to make sure that they’re not talking.
As one Huffington Post commenter said in that video, so what? The CIA may not always do it very well, but it’s their job to keep secrets.
And it’s interesting that CNN’s sources claiming a cover-up are unnamed and anonymous.
So the CNN Benghazi bombshell seemed to be…that the CIA is trying to do their job for a change?
Hmm.
As you must already know, the terror attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya last September left four Americans dead, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens.
But instead of bringing Americans together against a shared enemy, Benghazi has become a rallying point for conspiracy theorists and right-wing Obama administration opponents.
An Atlantic Wire report noted that, “The beauty of…the Benghazi scandal is that it means the scandal can be anything at all.”
If you support Obama, you don’t have a problem with the CIA keeping a covert mission under wraps. If you’re on the other side, everything he does is wrong.
At the end of the day, the Benghazi bombshell is only a bombshell if you want it to be.
