For Ben Affleck, things are not looking so good when it comes to starring as Batman in the untitled sequel to Man Of Steel. A petition started in Change.org has reached over 70,000 signatures so far.
John Roden, the author of the plea says, “Warner Brothers: Remove Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne in the Superman/Batman movie.”
At the time of writing this article, there were 74,000 thousand people who agreed with Roden.
The controversy started on Thursday night, when the studio announced that Affleck had been cast to play Batman opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman, in fact ending for good Chrisitan Bale’s reign as the Dark Knight.
Boy was Warner Bros. in for a real surprise. The announcement took the Internet by storm, people started voicing their disapproval almost instantly. They took to social media to tell producers that they were not happy with the choice. Not at all.
Most accept that Ben Affleck is a talented actor and director, but they just don’t see him as a Batman/Bruce Wayne as the petition says:
His acting skill is not even close to being believable as Bruce Wayne and he won’t do the role justice. He’s not intimidating enough for the role of Batman. Batman is someone that strikes fear in the hearts of men. His portrayal of Daredevil was atrocious and he’s not remotely close to an action star or a superhero. Please find someone else and deliver to the fans what they want.
The Man Of Steel sequel, which has not been given a title yet, is set to start filming in February of 2014 and will see Henry Cavill return to play Superman/Clark Kent, also returning will be Amy Adams ( Lois Lane), Diane Lane ( Matha Kent ), and Laurence Fishburne ( Perry White ).
Director Zack Snyder has a lot to prove with this film, not only it’s part two to his new Superman concept, it marks the first time ever that Superman and Batman face off.
Whether the petition to remove Ben Affleck as Batman will change anything, well, we just don’t see it happening, but fans are having their say anyway. More news to come.
