One of the more interesting aspects of the newest Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer is the clip that appears to include Robin’s suit hanging in Batman’s cave. The suit has the words “HAHAHAHA Joke’s On You, Batman!” written on the front, which indicates that the film might include a bit of a back story on Batman’s sidekick and how he was killed by the Joker.
With that in mind, the biggest follow-up question is who is going to be playing Robin in the new film. According to Heroic Hollywood , director Zack Snyder’s own son, Eli Snyder, might set to play Robin in a flashback interaction with the Joker, who is being played by Jared Leto.
The rumors that Eli might be playing Robin aren’t that farfetched, given Eli’s past film experience. Eli has played in two of Snyder’s films in the past, including a young Leonidas in 300 and the boy version of Rorschach in Watchmen .
Meanwhile, the photographer for the upcoming DC Comics movie recently added more credibility to the rumors that Eli would be playing Robin. Photographer Clay Enos recently tweeted a black and white image of Snyder and his son with the caption: “Boy Wonder?” making a reference to one of the names Robin is known by in the comics.
Whether or not Eli will be playing the role of Robin in the film is still yet to be officially announced. Even if he does end up playing the role, it still isn’t known which version of Robin he’ll be portraying. Two different men have played Batman’s sidekick throughout the comics. The original was Dick Grayson, who went on to become Nightwing, while the second Robin was Jason Todd.
In the comics, Todd was the one who was murdered by the Joker. However, according to Cinema Blend , an on-set photo of the new film leaked this past April that showed the gravestone of Grayson. While this version of Batman, played by Ben Affleck, is set to be an older Batman who is on the verge of retirement, it’s possible that Grayson’s gravestone means something else entirely.
Either way, it will be interesting to see which Robin is the one killed by the Joker in the movie, and if Snyder decides to portray this event happening in some sort of flashback with his son playing Robin.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to premiere in theaters March 25, 2016.
