Batman: Arkham Origins multiplayer details have been revealed!
Early fears that a multiplayer experience would feel tacked on if introduced in Batman: Arkham Origins have been struck down on the most part. It seems the latest Arkham game in the series is giving players the chance to team up in battles, and though the multiplayer portion of the game is being outsourced to Splash Damage, it’s looking to be promising.
Outsourcing the multiplayer aspects is not necessarily a bad thing. If your development team wants to create a strong single player campaign, it’s going to take a lot of time and dedication. Making the development team split their attention between modes could lead to one mode being weaker, or extending the proposed launch date (October 25). Outsourcing the Batman: Arkham Origins multiplayer mode may just make the game stronger in both modes, leading to a more solid game.
There will be three basic teams in Batman: Arkham Origins ‘ multiplayer mode; the Joker gang, the Bane gang, and the hero team. The villain gangs will have three players each, while the hero team only two.
You will have access to two guns from the start as one of the villain gangs. The SMG will be the heavy hitter, while the more generic pistol will have infinite ammo. You will be able to upgrade guns as you go, potentially unlocking better weapons. Supervillain Doors will be locked from the start, hiding behind which are the Joker and Bane, basically the special weapons of the gang teams. Bane is the “tank,” while Joker is the fast one who is hard to hit.
Batman and Robin (yes, Robin will be playable in Batman: Arkham Origins multiplayer) are the stealth team, staying invisible as much as possible as they stick to shadows and perch on gargoyles. They build intimidation points as they take out criminals without being seen. Once they’re seen, they become basically gun fodder and things get much more difficult.
The combat style will be based on the Gears Of War gameplay, using cover as part of your tactics. You will also have access to a skill called Detective Vision, which lets you see through walls in a way, but it should be used sparingly as it takes time to regenerate.
Batman: Arkham Origins multiplayer promises a steep learning curve, made easier if you get used to it in single player first.
