For most college students, freshman year is all about freedom, isn’t it? Rushing to class late, socializing, and getting a tour of campus life. However, for Barron Trump, student life at New York University’s Stern School of Business is quite the opposite; it is anything but normal.
Every morning, a convoy of black SUV Secret Service vehicles whisks Donald Trump‘s youngest son from Trump Tower to NYU’s campus in Greenwich Village. The route uses bus lanes to avoid traffic. As he arrives, he enters the underground garage and completely avoids public view. The end of the day has the same process. Hence, Barron is left with very little room for fresh air.
Being the President’s son comes with extra security measures, and Barron never moves around campus alone. His four to five plainclothes Secret Service agents follow him everywhere—even into the restroom. To avoid any mix-ups, they ditch the usual black suits for chinos, polo shirts, and NYU ID lanyards. Hence, the look seems more like faculty members than security personnel.
However, the casual look doesn’t stop them from monitoring each of Barron’s moves. Though Barron is now a familiar face at NYU, he isn’t exactly the life of the party. Unlike many of his peers, he doesn’t hang out in student lounges, attend parties, or participate in NYU’s notorious nightlife scene. According to sources, he once tried to enter a bar in NoHo but was denied entry for being underage, as per Daily Mail.

Instead, the President’s son keeps to himself, usually takes a seat at the back of the class, and leaves campus immediately after lessons end. He has a small circle of friends, and most of their socializing takes place online, mainly through video games like FIFA. NYU is known for being a liberal university in a liberal city, where Donald Trump is not exactly a popular figure. The student newspaper often publishes articles with harsh takes on his father. A recent piece claimed, “NYU is no longer safe under President Donald Trump’s second administration.”
Some faculty members have also made snide remarks about Barron’s presence. Kaya Walker, former NYU College Republicans president, revealed that one of her professors jokingly said, “Barron doesn’t really belong here.”

Many Republicans hope that Barron will follow in his father’s footsteps. However, he has been tight-lipped about his political views. He was asked about his party affiliation before the 2024 election but Barron refused to align himself with any political party. His quiet nature hasn’t stopped some conservatives from hyping him up as a future Republican leader. Will Donahue, president of College Republicans of America, even invited him to join, calling him “the future of the conservative movement.”
Barron doesn’t eat in the campus cafeteria. Sources claim he hardly has any interactions with classmates other than attending lectures. His security detail limits his ability to do even simple activities, like playing basketball with peers. One student who invited him for a game said Barron “seemed interested,” but his security wouldn’t let him.
His mother, Melania Trump, has admitted that her son is aware of his unusual college experience. She said in an interview, “I don’t think it’s possible for him to be a normal student.”
