Katy Perry’s interview with Barbara Walters back in 2011 apparently got off on the wrong foot.
The singer recently opened up to Billboard magazine about the interview and said that the legendary journalist was not too pleased when she showed up late.
Perry was named to Walters’ annual “Most Fascinating People” in 2011 and she agreed to sit down with the journalist for an interview. At the time, Perry was on tour and was also nearing the end of her marriage to Russell Brand .
The singer admits that she was stressed out and that she probably never should have done the interview in the first place.
Perry said : “I shouldn’t have done the interview… I was playing Madison Square Garden that same night, and I knew that the end of my marriage was coming. I was just exhausted and stressed.”
Perry says that she called ahead to say that she was going to be late but Walters apparently didn’t receive the message. When Perry arrived at the studio a very stern Barbara Walters threw some very serious shade in the singer’s direction.
Perry said : “I’d prepped everyone that I was running late, but Barbara showed up at the original time anyway… When I got there, I apologized immediately, but then she said to me, ‘You know, I’ve only ever waited for one other person this long, and you know who that person was? Judy Garland. You know how she turned out, right?’ I was like, ‘Oh, snap! Yes, bitch!’”
But don’t worry, Katy Perry and Barbara Walters are on good terms now. Perry even said that she was honored to get dissed by the legendary journalist.
Perry said: “I think it’s the coolest thing that Barbara Walters shaded me. I just couldn’t tell her as we were sitting down for a mega-interview, ‘Hey, my marriage is falling apart. Give me a break.’”
