Barack Obama entered the history books in more ways than one on Tuesday night. As well as the small matter of, y’know, winning a second term in the White House , the re-elected president tweeted the most popular tweet in history.

After media confirmed Obama’s victory in Ohio, the president (or, okay, his campaign team) celebrated by tweeting a shot of himself and wife Michelle Obama in a warm embrace. The text to go with the photo? “Four more years.”

Within hours, the fourteen-character tweet and photo had become the most popular tweet of all time as gauged by retweets. At the time of writing, the tweet has been retweeted a whopping 538,000 times, a number that continues to rise by the minute. It’s also been marked as a favorite by more than 180,000 users.

Another tweet, sent from Obama’s account slightly earlier, came a close second with 225,000 retweets. Thanking his supporters, the president wrote, “This happened because of you. Thank you.”

A third tweet written by Obama himself (as indicated by the “-bo” signature) registered 145,000 retweets and read, “We’re all in this together. That’s how we campaigned, and that’s who we are. Thank you. -bo”

Media Bistro’s All Twitter blog compiled the most popular tweets ever back in September. Justin Bieber was the eventual winner, notching up roughly 224,000 retweets for this missive .

However, President Obama’s victory tweet has thoroughly thrashed that record. Here are Obama’s wildly popular top three tweets, beginning with the new record-holder:
