Axl Rose may not fit the profile of what you might consider to be a ‘model tenant.’ Nevertheless, the rock legend made a very good impression on the Tribeca landlord who ended up renting Axl an apartment.
The story goes that Axl rented the apartment, having seen it a couple of times, but never actually ended up staying there.
According to Vulture.com , the happy landlord, named Steve Fishman, spoke about his no-show tenant:
“Axl came by to see the apartment twice. Once my wife was there, and she reported that he played enthusiastically with our dog and snorted at people who like spaces ‘bathed in light,’ as the Realtors say. He loved the place. Of course, I was worried. Axl, after all, had a reputation for wrecking places. There is, for instance, this headline from 2008: Guns N’ Roses Axl Rose one of world’s worst hotel guests. But he was said to have reformed as he aged. By the time he inspected my apartment, he was almost 50 years old and getting the belly to prove it.”
As well as being more mild mannered than one might have expected, Axl Rose was also a gentleman when it came to the substantial rent payment for the 5,300-square-foot apartment.
After signing the lease, paying the security deposit, and the rent for the duration of the lease, Axl Rose went on tour .
The landlord continued:
“As far as I can tell, Axl never set foot in my place after his initial viewings. I wondered if he remembered that he’d rented it. Maybe a superstar lives this way — renting apartments just in case, and then forgetting about them. Still, the rent checks kept coming, which is all I cared about.”
So, there you have it, Axl Rose is the perfect tenant. He pays hefty rents without ever actually ever staying in the apartments he leases, at least in this case.
Is it an unnecessary display of wealth and a simple waste of money or do celebrities have the right to rent a Pied A Terre, even if they never set foot in it? Share your thoughts in the comments feed below.
