Avengers: Age of Ultron is the name of the next Avengers film, as announced at Marvel SDCC 2013.
For those not in the know, SDCC stands for San Diego Comic-Con , a public version of E3 where the average Joe or Jane is allowed to wander the floor and enjoy the geek culture that surrounds him or her. Of course, the booths and displays aren’t the only entertainment to be had, as a myriad of fans usually dress up as their favorite super heroes, anime characters, video game characters, and the like.
One of the attractions of this year’s SDCC was the Marvel section, where a group of actors and actresses made a surprise appearance from X-Men: Days of Future Past . Bryan Singer showed up in the company of a crowd consisting of Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Peters, Peter Dinklage, Sean Ashmore, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, and Ellen Page. Oddly, this wasn’t the biggest surprise.
Tom Hiddleston came out in character as Loki to get the crowd pumped for the next big announcement.
The biggest surprise of the day at Marvel SDCC was the announcement of the title for the next Avengers film, which instantly gives away the name of a major villain. Avengers: Age of Ultron will have the original cast alongside a handful of new faces, as they face off against one of the most hard to kill villains in Marvel history.
According to the comics , Ultron was once defeated with a hex cast by Scarlet Witch, so this could be a clue about how the Avengers will stop him this time. Also, we might just see a foot race between Ultron and Quicksilver, seeing as both have the ability to move really fast. Other ways Ultron has been defeated include enough blunt force to damage him internally, so Hulk and Thor would be the best bet there.
One issue with Ultron would be that Hank Pym, a character who is planned to be introduced in the “third wave,” was the one who created Ultron, so we will have to see how Avengers: Age of Ultron deals with that portion of the story.
Ultron is basically a robot with a genius intellect, super speed, super human strength, and a certain amount of remote control over other machinery. His outer shell is composed of Adamantium, the same metal that covers Wolverine’s skeleton and is considered unbreakable, so Ultron could easily be a major pain to even fight.
The big problem with defeating Ultron is that he has the ability to fix himself, so we may just see multiple attempts to stop him.
What do you think of the name and villain planned for the Avengers sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron ?
