A prepper community in Idaho was granted permission to start manufacturing weapons by the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) agency. As previously reported by The Inquisitr , The Citadel project is an intentional community for folks who match the group’s outlined American patriot criteria.

Achieving permission by the ATF for gun manufacturing was an important step in the development of The Citade l project, TPM Muckraker notes. Profits from manufacturing firearms will reportedly help pay for construction of the prepper community in Idaho.

III Arms Company President Jim Miller had this to say about the ATF approval on the company’s website :

“In this afternoon’s mail, III Arms Company received a little note from the ATF saying: ‘Thanks for your interest, please start building firearms.’ Yup. The III Arms Company now possesses our Manufacturers of Firearms Other Than Destructive Devices License, otherwise known as 97FFL, and we can legally manufacture and assemble your firearms. Oh yeah, happy days!”

The company will reportedly start taking orders for AR-15 style semi-automatic rifles and 1911 pistols in November. Miller also stated that typical processing times for an ATF gun manufacturing license are approximately 60 days – The Citadel’s license took 120 days.

Some survivalists and preppers reportedly thought all the publicity The Citadel engaged in to promote the community could be a bad idea. Miller vehemently disagrees and noted the group’s blogged has garnered more than 160,000 views and gets about 2,000 hits from around the world on a daily basis.

Applications to live at The Citadel community have also reportedly increased in recent weeks after news about the Idaho community for American patriots made headlines.

Would you consider living in a private community designed for preppers, patriots, or survivalists?
