Astronauts Will Watch Super Bowl From Outer Space

Astronauts are planning on watching the Super Bowl from outer space. Yup, not even the vacuum of space will stop these six fans from cheering their teams to victory.

The six astronauts living in space may be lacking gravity, fresh food or a shower, but they won’t miss the Super Bowl this Sunday. The Super Bowl XLVII showdown between the 49ers and the Ravens will be beamed, via NASA’s Mission Control in Houston, live to the International Space Station. The astronaut crew can cheer on San Francisco or Baltimore from the “final frontier”.

According to Space.com , NASA spokesman Josh Byerly said in an email:

“Yes, they are going to watch it this weekend.”

Josh Byerly said Mission Control made a special point on February 1 of asking the astronauts if they wanted to catch the game:

“And they said they definitely wanted to see it.”

The Expedition 34 team includes two American astronauts (Kevin Ford and engineer Tom Marshburn), Russian cosmonauts Evgeny Tarelkin, Oleg Novitskiy and Roman Romanenko, and Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Kia ‘s “Space Babies” commercial will air during the Super Bowl and answer once and for all one of children’s biggest questions.

According to NBC News , it is unknown if the space station crew will throw a traditional Super Bow l party or hold a zero-gravity football game. The International Space Station is just about as big as the football field in New Orleans where Sunday’s game will be held, so either could be possible. It is doubtful any chips, soda or beer will be available for the game there, though.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr , NASA installed LED lights on the International Space Station to help with insomnia, though the Super Bowl should definitely keep them awake.

AXE , the personal care products company, will announce the first winner of its AXE Apollo Space Academy contest just after the Super Bowl . The prize is a private trip to space for 22 people. XCOR Aerospace and Space Expedition Curacao will offer the trips.

Both men and women in more than 60 countries are eligible to win. Visit AXEApollo.com and write about why you should fly in space. The deadline to enter is February 3.

What would you do to celebrate the Super Bowl if you were an astronaut at the International Space Station?
