The Assassin’s Creed movie being spearheaded by the folks at Ubisoft will be scripted by acclaimed English playwright Michael Lesslie.

X-Men: First Class star Michael Fassbender has been tapped to star in the upcoming adventure. According to Collider , the actor will portray a guy who is kidnapped by a secret organization interested in exploiting the memories contained within his DNA. Judging from the film’s description, the story doesn’t sound too different form the one found in the source material.

Outside of a few short films, Lesslie hasn’t written anything major for the big screen. In fact, Assassin’s Creed will serve as his feature-length debut.

Although he may be new to the world of motion pictures, the playwright knows a thing or two about penning a good story. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Lesslie wrote the critically acclaimed play Prince of Denmark . It was later performed at the National Theatre in 2012.

The Inquisitr previously reported that the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie will be a co-production between Ubisoft, New Regency, and 20th Century Fox. Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet said the reason for the partnership was to ease the cost of what could be a risky venture.

Baronnet said in a press release:

“Ubisoft chose to partner with New Regency because they are a talent and filmmaker-driven company, with the same independent and creative mindset that we have at Ubisoft Motion Pictures. Bringing aboard New Regency’s renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that ‘Assassin’s Creed’ will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise.”

Now that playwright Michael Lesslie has been signed to handle the script, it’s only a matter of time before Assassin’s Creed ends up in front of the cameras. It’s currently unknown when the feature will find its way into a theater near you.
