‘Assassin’s Creed 4’ DLC ‘ Freedom Cry’ Gets Release Date, Teases ‘AC5’

The upcoming Assassin’s Creed 4 DLC, Freedom Cry , now has an official release date. The first story-based add-on is expected to drop hints on what AC5 might be about as well.

Assassin’s Creed 4 is one of the sequels released this year which actually improved on the games that came before it. It took everything gamers liked about the adventures of Connor and Ezio and threw them together for a game with so much depth, you could easily play for weeks and only be halfway through with it.

Ubisoft initially wanted to add some fantasy elements to the game, such as a kraken, but decided against it. After all, look at what Saints Row 4 did and the series’ fan reaction.

Though some of us may be wishing that the sequel could give us a game about historically accurate ninjas in feudal Japan, it doesn’t appear that Ubisoft is taking the game in that direction. Early hints already in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag pointed to a sequel possibly based in the Old West . A cowboy hat on a shelf, and the rifle in the hand of the assassin to Edward Kenway’s left among the figures on another shelf are a heavy indication of this.

The first story-based Assassin’s Creed 4 DLC will supposedly give further hints about where and when Ubisoft’s next installment will take place. Freedom Cry will be about Adewale , Captain Kenway’s first mate as he branches off on his own adventures as an assassin 15 years after Black Flag . Adewale is an assassin in his own right and finds himself caught in a struggle to escape an island rife with slavery.

Freedom Cry will be available on December 17, in case you’re already somehow bored with the main story, or just want something to do when you’re finally done. It will expand even further on the theme of Assassins vs Templars as it takes place in Port-au-Prince, the Capital of Haiti. Adewale will have a few encounters with Kenway, giving further info on the Captain’s future, as well.

Assassin’s Creed 4 ‘s DLC creative director Wesley Pincombe told the press:

“You’re going to a new setting with new crowd life. New enemies, new AI. Port-au-Prince is a French colony – there are no French colonies in Black Flag so that is all new. The alternate universe [of AC3 ‘s Tyranny of King Washington DLC] was a great idea and each episode had its own set theme and abilities, but we wanted to focus on one DLC and put all of our content in there. We also wanted to give the player new locations. In King Washington we [revisited] locations – we changed the themes and settings – but we wanted to push it further.”

Could the Assassin’s Creed 4 DLC Freedom Cry be hinting that AC5 will take place during the French Revolution?
