Arnold Schwarzenegger To Run For President, But … He Can’t, Right?

Arnold Schwarzenegger is reportedly considering a run for president in 2016, according to a “breaking” news story from a website which shall not be named.

Anyway, yeah. Schwarzenegger is going to abandon his film comeback and return to politics in 2016, according to reports. He’s apparently got his eye on the presidency, but he might run into a wall there. We’re not talking about his maligned tenure as California’s governor, no. It’s far more practical.

He wasn’t born here.

The Constitution expressly forbids any foreign-born citizens from running for the highest office in the land. However, many have tried (and failed) to challenge the law in the past, and apparently that’s part of Schwarzy’s plan, though the report doesn’t really explain how he plans to do it.

If he wants to appeal directly to Congress, his measure to overturn the law would have to be approved by two-thirds in the House and Senate and be ratified by 38 of the country’s 50 states.

If he wants to take a lawsuit of some kind up the rung to the Supreme Court and challenge the Constitution directly, he’d have to start like yesterday in order to have enough time to challenge, win, and then start a campaign (2016 is not as far away as you think).

Then, of course, there are all of the personal problems and scandals that have tarred-and-feathered his public image recently. Someone more famous-er than I once said that in order to make a successful comeback, you have to actually go away for a while. He hasn’t, in fact, we’re seeing more of him lately .

He’d also have to pick his party. Though he served California as a Republican, he has recently expressed distaste for the GOP due to their extreme elements. Running as a Democrat would be a risky bid too, as his estranged wife Maria Shriver is, in fact, a Kennedy, and they’re still one of the most powerful political families in the country.

But this is a news story we’re all taking very seriously, because of this statement from a supposed insider:

“Schwarzenegger has been talking openly about working on getting the constitutional rules changed so he can run for president in 2016. He is ready to file legal paperwork to challenge the rules.”

Come on, there’s no way that an actor could ever be elected president.

Would you vote for Arnold Schwarzenegger?
