If this were a normal off season we would be spending our time looking at what each team did in the draft, and which free agents they had signed or needed to. We would also be close to OTA’s and rookie mini camps. Since we have none of that to look at, let us take a look at what each team still needs to accomplish once the labor unrest comes to an end. We will start our look with the Arizona Cardinals.
The Cardinals did a pretty good job of addressing their needs via the draft but a couple of key things still need to happen. The first thing on that list has to be an upgrade at QB. That means either signing a veteran free agent, or the more likely option of trading for a well though of guy to come in and run their offense. The likeliest options here are Donovan McNabb or Kevin Kolb. Either way this team will be at disadvantage as they continue to lose time to get a deal done and teach their new QB their offense.
Their next move should be to add yet another veteran LB. Sure they drafted Sam Acho, but looking at their depth chart I still see a lot of holes. Paris Lenon, Daryl Washington, Clark Haggans, O’Brien Schofield and backups Will Davis and Reggie Walker have not gotten the job done, and just the addition of Acho does not cure what is wrong with this unit.
This team could also use some help along the O line, and possibly a new punter. After that, and after turning in a pretty decent draft class, this team would look a heck of a lot better.
