Argentinian President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner never had thyroid cancer. Fernandez was taken to surgery last month to have her thyroid gland removed due to the presence of cancerous cells. When the gland was removed and further analyzed they found the gland did not contain cancerous cells as previously diagnosed.
Fernandez’s spokesman Alfredo Scoccimaro told a press conference,
“The original diagnosis has been modified. The presence of cancer cells was discarded.”
The popular Argentinian President is expected to make a full recovery and return to office by the end of the month.
An extremely popular politician, Fernandez was reelected to office with 54% of the vote. Her generous welfare systems and state interventions have made her very popular among the poor in the country.
Business interests and grain farmers fear that her economic interventions scare away investment.
Hundreds of her supporters have been camped outside of her hotel room with signs saying “Strength, Cristina”
There has been no speculation that the diagnosis was the result of carelessness on the part of her doctors. Thyroid cancer can easily be misdiagnosed due to its size and the presence of only cancerous cells and not full tumors.
We all wish the Argentinian President, Cristine Fernandez de Kirchner well. Have you taken the time to learn about her or her policies?
