You had to know at some point I just couldn’t let this iPhone 4 mess go by without saying something. After all how many times does one get the chance to have hard evidence of Apple’s condescending attitude towards its customers?
Ever since the first iPhone was purchased one of the most often heard complaints about Jobs’ gift to mankind has been its constant problems with customers to use it as .. gawd forbid … a phone. While much of the blame has been levied against AT&T one has to wonder given the problems that the iPhone 4 is having if AT&T was deserving of all the blame.
And yet people keep lining up to buy smartphone regardless of the fact that it is becoming increasingly apparent that there is a real problem with the iPhone. However in a move that for me would be adding insult onto injury Apple releases a statement today that literally shaking my head.
You see Apple has finally admitted that there is a problem, and they’ll even waive the restocking fee if you want to take your phone back, but their explanation for the problem is almost as insanely stupid as blaming the problem on the way people hold the phone in the first place.
To quote from the Apple press release
We have discovered the cause of this dramatic drop in bars, and it is both simple and surprising.
Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars. Users observing a drop of several bars when they grip their iPhone in a certain way are most likely in an area with very weak signal strength, but they don’t know it because we are erroneously displaying 4 or 5 bars. Their big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place.
To fix this, we are adopting AT&T’s recently recommended formula for calculating how many bars to display for a given signal strength. The real signal strength remains the same, but the iPhone’s bars will report it far more accurately, providing users a much better indication of the reception they will get in a given area. We are also making bars 1, 2 and 3 a bit taller so they will be easier to see.
Are you freaking serious?
A faulty formula is to blame? The bars are too small in height?
I guess this is also the reason why they are on the hunt to hire a bunch of antenna engineers eh.
What is more amazing though is that it seems that the majority of iPhone 4 owners are more than willing to have their intelligence insulted in such an obvious fashion. Instead we get tech bloggers making fun of the lawsuits that are starting to be filed against Apple and seemingly swallowing this load of horse shit like its caviar or something.
I didn’t realize that one of the prerequisites of owning an iPhone was having a full frontal lobotomy done at the same time.
It makes one wonder just what Apple has to do, or not do, before people say enough is enough.
And yet you all keep lining up …..
