The 15-inch MacBook Pro is short in supply. That is bad news for people who want a 15-inch MacBook Pro right now, but good news for people who can wait a little bit to get an upgraded unit. Gotta Be Mobile talks about the imminent release of the updated 15-inch MacBook Pro.
“Inventory of the 15-inch MacBook Pro has been slowly dwindling on Apple’s website, hinting to the possibility that a MacBook Pro refresh of the larger model is incoming…This could mean that Apple may announce a refresh for the 15-inch MacBook Pro at WWDC in June. Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (as it’s called) is usually reserved for software-only reveals by the company, but it has never shied away from announcing new hardware products at the event.”
Apple refreshed the 13-inch MacBook Pro last month with an improved Broadwell processor and a trackpad with Force Touch technology. They left the 15-inch MacBook Pro out, but some speculate it’s because the new 15-incher will have more than incremental changes, including a possible new design.
The imminent announcement of the 15-inch MacBook Pro comes at a time when many are speculating about Apple’s next tablet, the iPad Pro. Expert Reviews talks about the conflicting release dates for Apple’s large tablet.
“There have been lots of conflicting rumours about the larger screen iPad. Last year, Bloomberg said that the iPad Pro would be launched in Q1 2015, although that’s clearly wrong given the current date…Reuters has stated that the iPad Pro will come out in September, and this is due to component shortages. Once again, we have to point out that we’ve never seen a true report about Apple products being delayed due to shortages.”
Interestingly enough, Macworld UK doesn’t think the iPad Pro will launch this year.
“So our verdict right now is that Apple probably isn’t going to launch an iPad Pro this year. We’d love to be proved wrong, however, and it can’t be denied that the tech world has become a little bit obsessed with the iPad Pro idea, as you’ll be able to tell from the sheer volume of rumours and clues that have been dug up. It’s a fascinating concept, even if we don’t think it’s a commercially sensible one right now.”
If the iPad Pro runs OS X as some rumors have previously stated, then the iPad Pro will be a direct competitor to Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Pro 4 . It’s obvious that consumers want a laptop/tablet hybrid, and Apple would be smart to take advantage of that need with the iPad Pro. However, their next announcement will most likely be the new 15-inch MacBook Pro.
