Angelina Jolie might portray a classic Disney character in her upcoming flick Maleficent, but apparently that fact escaped the handful of children she frightened while in costume.

The Wanted star has remained pretty tight-lipped about her role in Robert Stromberg’s take on the Sleeping Beauty story. However, the actress decided to share a few details about the flick during her appearance at D23 in California on Saturday.

Those who attended the Disney fan event were treated to a handful of clips from the upcoming fantasy. Angelina Jolie, who introduced the footage, also revealed that the horns and red eyes she wore on the set weren’t exactly popular with children who stopped by during filming.

“People with little kids would visit set, and I would think, ‘I’m a Disney character,’ And I would go over to the children, and they’d scream and run off. One little kid even said, ‘Mommy, please tell the mean witch to stop talking to me.’ I guess we did a good job,” she explained.

While a lot of little girls loved Sleeping Beauty, Jolie admitted that she was more obsessed with Maleficent when she was a kid. Portraying the iconic character in Stromberg’s upcoming tale was essentially a dream come true for the actress.

“Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite. I was terrified of her, but I was so drawn to her. She had this elegance and grace, and yet she was so cruel. Just wonderfully and deliciously cruel,” she told the crowd.

Juno Temple, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley , and Miranda Richardson are among the familiar faces who will join Angelina Jolie in the upcoming Disney flick. The movie is currently slated to hit theaters in the US on July 2, 2014.
