Andy Reid’s future has him being a coach if he has anything to say about his future prospects in the NFL. Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had made it clear that a 8-8 record was unacceptable and so far the team is 4-11, giving credence to the general consensus that head coach Andy Reid will not have a future with the Eagles . Even if Andy Reid is not back with the Philadelphia Eagles next season, he wants to be a coach somewhere, anywhere in the NFL.
Andy Reid’s final game coaching the Philadelphia Eagles is two days away and while Andy Reid is “excited about getting ready for these New York Giants” he’s also optimistic about his future with football. According to NJ.com , Andy Reid does not see a future where he’s content sitting at home collecting the $5.5 million he’s due next season:
“I don’t know what I’d do without the media. Yeah, I want to coach. That’s what I want to do.”
Andy Reid said he has not spoken to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie this week about the future, but Reid already has future plans to self-scout during the off-season.
According to Philly.com , Andy Reid “has maintained the support from his players” and tight end Brent Celek said Andy Reid’s future as a coach is within his grasp:
“That’s up to him. I think he loves coaching too much, loves the game too much to get out of it. So I think he’ll keep coaching. Hopefully it’s here, but you never know.”
NJ.com thinks that chances are slim for Andy Reid to stay at the Eagles after 14 seasons with no Super Bowl titles and two straight playoff-less years. But they also believe his prior record holds hope:
“There should be plenty of opportunities given his resume. Reid led the Eagles to five NFC Championships, seven NFC East titles and one Super Bowl. He’s the most accomplished coach in franchise history. With more than a handful of coaching changes expected this offseason, as long as he wants a job, he’ll likely have one.”
