Analyzing ‘Ant-Man”s Move To Summer 2015

If the summer of 2015 didn’t already look very bloated at the box office, we’re about to get insanely bloated, as Disney has decided to move their anticipated Ant-Man to the summer of 2015 .

So far the summer of 2015 has a ton of blockbuster potential films in its claws. We aren’t even fully done with 2013 yet, and there’s a bunch of films that have already been announced for the summer of 2015, including The Avengers: Age of Ultron , Terminator , J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars , Man of Steel 2 , Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales , and Jurassic Park IV .

Now Disney wants to toss their ring in there with Marvel’s Ant-Man . Originally slated for a Thanksgiving release of November 6, filmmaker Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man will now hit theaters on July 31, 2015. The move to switch the film from November to July is a brave move considering all the competition, but it also means that Disney and Marvel are confident in the film holding its own amongst heavyweights like Pirates and the new Terminator film.

Ant-Man centers on comic book biochemist Dr. Hank Pym who discovers a group of subatomic particles to create a size-altering formula. Of course something goes awry and through that he develops a tool that helps him communicate with insects.

While Ant-Man isn’t very well-known in terms of summer blockbusters, it still may dominate. So far it’s unknown who will play the lead Hank Pym, but our bet is that Disney and Marvel have someone awesome in their back pocket if they’re moving the release date. It would have to be someone who could compete with Johnny Depp, so we’re thinking whoever is in the lead has some major star power. Perhaps we’ll hear who this is soon?

In addition to Ant-Man , Disney also has plans to release the Ellen DeGeneres starring film Finding Dory , which will see Pixar’s favorite fish lost. Finding Dory is slated for a November 25, 2015, which may mean that Disney may dominate in both quarters if they’re lucky.
