Filmmaker David O. Russell sure knows how to capture specific looks out of certain periods. He had the streets of Boston for The Fighter , and Philadelphia for Silver Linings Playbook . Now he has the fantastic style of the 70s in Worcester, MA for American Hustle .

When the film’s trailer dropped, capturing the feeling of the 70s felt like it was more than familiar for David O. Russell. Now Russell shows off his characters in their stylized garb in five character posters, which are being used to promote American Hustle .

American Hustle stars Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Jennifer Lawrence in the 70s-driven Abscam operation.

The official synopsis for American Hustle is listed as follows:

“American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.”

The most surprising poster comes from the sizzling Jennifer Lawrence. The actress has shed her Hunger Games image and sexed it up for a more mature look. In the poster Lawrence is seen standing defiantly with her hands posed on her hips, as a barely there white slinky dress hugs her hips. If we have a character that will embody American Hustle , it certainly looks like it’s Jennifer Lawrence’s character, at least going by the poster.

Of teaming back up with Bradley Cooper , David O. Russell seems to only have praise for the Silver Linings Playbook actor:

“You’ve got Cooper, look at f–king Cooper! He isn’t your usual federal agent, he’s from the outer boroughs and is every bit as much of a character as they are.”

American Hustle hits theaters on December 25.
