FX’s series American Horror Story seems to get better with each season with the last, American Horror Story: Freak Show , becoming the highest watched FX series ever, having bought in 12.64 million linear and non-linear viewers. But about American Horror Story: Hotel ? How will it fare? While we won’t know that until it screens in October, here’s what we know about the series so far.

  • Filming for American Horror Story: Hotel will commence in July.
  • American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy recently told Deadline that American Horror Story: Hotel will once again delve into the classic horror tropes associated with hotels.

“It’s based in the hotel in horror movies and horror tropes. We’ve researched several real-live hotels in downtown LA where absolutely horrifying things happened… When you check into a hotel, there are certain things beyond your control. Other people have the keys to your room; they can come in there. You’re not exactly safe, it’s a very unsettling idea.”

  • He also announced American Horror Story: Hotel would be straight horror this year. And even though Lady Gaga will star in the series, she will not be singing. Murphy confirmed there would be no musical numbers whatsoever in Hotel , even though fans have been asking about it.
  • Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will be breaking the mold from previous seasons and will be playing villains instead of the good guys.
  • American Horror Story: Hotel will be set in a roadside hotel in Los Angeles. The hotel in question will be a six-story Art Deco building.
  • It seems Finn Wittrock’s character will be involved in a love triangle .
  • There is the possibility that American Horror Story: Hotel will be based around the Hotel Cecil (currently rebranded as Stay on Main) — or at least Vanity Fair seem to think so. They have a pretty good reasoning too. The Hotel Cecil was home to the strange death of Elisa Lam , a Canadian student whose body was discovered in one of the hotel water tanks. Video surveillance footage shows Elise behaving erratically before she disappeared. However, this is not the first time Hotel Cecil saw death on its doorstep. Serial killers Richard Ramirez and Jack Unterweger spent time within its walls. Beth Short also stayed there. If that name is familiar it’s because she became known as the Black Dahlia after she was murdered. She was also a feature of the storyline in Season 1 of American Horror Story . Considering the show’s creators are now saying all seasons of American Horror Story are interconnected , this looks like a pretty good link.

American Horror Story: Hotel will premiere on FX in October 2015.
