The Amazon Studios’ Betas pilot has picked up four young stars , according to a report Monday from Deadline .
Margo Harshman, Joe Dinicol, Charlie Saxton, and Karan Soni, have signed on for the pilot, which sounds like a Silicon Valley version of The Big Bang Theory .
Dinicol will lead a trio of app developers, who “have designed a killer app that could transform the social lives of about six billion people for the better,” according to Deadline .
Harshman will play Lisa Rudolph, an investment firm workaholic, who sees the potential of the app and attempts to guide the boys through the social pitfalls of the business world.
Harshman is no stranger to this type of plot. In 2012, she stepped into a recurring role as Alex Jensen on The Big Bang Theory after a few parts in low-budget horror fare, the most notable being Sorority Row in 2009.
Dinicol comes to Amazon Studios’ Betas from another popular career-based comedy (sort of) in Workaholics . His Cubicle Warriors has also moved into post-production and should be released in 2013, according to IMDb .
Rounding out the cast, Saxton will play the role of Mitchell, a junior coder, and Soni is Nash, the brains of the group.
Original video content is the next mountain for former retailer-only and now jack-of-all-trades Amazon to climb, and so far, they’re showing promise.
The company launched the Kindle and the eBook revolution, changing the publishing industry more in a few years than it had been in the last several decades.
With its Thomas and Mercer imprint, it has also started to break in to traditional publishing.
And in addition to Betas , the company has undergone a crowd-sourcing effort to determine which of six comedy pilots will be its next acquisition.
Are you excited about Amazon Studios’ Betas and the casting decisions announced today? Will you be taking part in the effort to crowd-source Amazon’s next original series?
