Amanda Brumfield, the estranged daughter of Billy Bob Thornton was convicted of aggravated manslaughter in the death of a friend’s baby daughter this past Friday.

According to Brumfield, Olivia Madison Garcia was trying to climb out of a pack and play and fell a short distance, hitting her head. The defense suggested the fall may have aggravated a previous injury, causing her death.

The prosecutions argument was that it would be “impossible” for a fall from that height to create a three-and-a-half inch fracture on the back of the girl’s skull. They also questioned the reasoning behind waiting over two hours before placing a call to 911.

Mrs. Brumfield testified that other than a tiny bit of blood on Olivia’s tongue, the child seemed completely normal, played, and even consumed snack consisting of bananas and fruit. According to her, she didn’t think a call was necessary.

‘It might have been an accident, but she had an obligation to get that child care,’ said a police spokesman. ‘For two and a half hours she did not care for that child.’

The only positive news to come from the case (if such a thing is possible) was that Amanda was acquitted of both murder and aggravated child abuse charges.

The entire Brumfield trial lasted less than 7 days, unlike the ongoing high-profile Casey Anthony case, which is expected to drag on for months. Amanda’s sentencing is scheduled for July.
