San Francisco 49ers guard Alex Boone wants to punch Packer linebacker Clay Matthews “in the face” for his clothesline tackle of quarterback Colin Kaepernick last Sunday.
Boone didn’t hold back when talking with Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area about the fine given to Matthews for his illegal hit . When asked what kind of fine he would give Matthews, Boone responded, “probably punch him in the face. I don’t want his money.”
Alex Boone’s words are pretty extreme. He was defending more than his just his quarterback though. After the hit a fight broke out on the sideline as fellow offensive lineman Joe Staley stepped in Matthews way.
Jim Harbaugh was less intense about Clay Matthews, although his general sentiment was the same:
“I could see two punches thrown to Joe’s head — well, one punch and one open slap, which… if you’re going to go to the face, come with some knuckles. I think that young man works very hard on being a tough guy. He’ll have some repairing to do to his image after the slap.”
After Alex Boone’s threat to Clay Matthews, he’ll have to repair his image as well.
Most worrisome about Boone’s words are that it means the 49ers haven’t moved on from last Sunday yet. San Francisco has the game of week Sunday night in Seattle, and the team’s focus should be solely on the Seahawks.
One 49ers has moved on for sure. Reserve running back called the Seahawks the “She-Hawks” on Twitter a day ago. He quickly deleted the tweet.
It’s time for Alex Boone and his threats to move on too. The last time the 49ers went to Seattle they were blown out 42-13. Seattle is vulnerable right now with Cliff Avril and Brandon Browner questionable to start. San Francisco might not get a better shot to beat their biggest rival this season.
