Alan Thicke, beloved television father and game show host, is returning to your living rooms in the provocatively titled new reality series Unusually Thicke , which will air on TV Guide Network beginning on April 16.

This will be a foray into the reality genre for Thicke, as the new show will feature the former Growing Pains dad and his daily interactions with his wife Tanya and teenage son Carter. Thicke is clearly excited about the new reality series, exclaiming, “ Unusually Thicke combines my two favorite things: family … and laughing at my family.”

Thicke’s name seems to naturally lend itself to clever titles such as Unusually Thicke , as the 67-year old actor once hosted his own late-night talk show, the aptly titled Thicke of the Night . Despite his ample hosting experience in both the talk show and game show formats, Thicke is perhaps best known for his role as Jason Seaver on the long running ABC sitcom Growing Pains, on which Thicke portrayed a psychiatrist who works from home and cares for his children, including Kirk Cameron as the oldest sibling.

The Canadian born Thicke referenced his favorite fictional character when describing the premise of Unusually Thicke .

“This series is my foray into the ‘reality-ish’ television world where viewers will meet the lovable, unpredictable, and often challenging people who live with the real Jason Seaver. We take our relatable real-life stories and blow them up to amuse and amaze, tossing in a handful of celebrity friends along the way.”

Viewers will apparently be treated to a liberal blend of genuine reality and scripted pieces , a formula that is fairly standard ground for the vast majority of this type of programming. The show will primarily revolve around Thicke, Tanya, and Carter, although the network has hinted at periodic appearances from Alan’s oldest son, singer Robin Thicke. The 16-year old Carter even references Robin in a scene from the trailer for Unusually Thicke : “He loves Robin more than me. Why? Because he makes him more money.”

While the occasional appearance of Robin Thicke will certainly help the show gain some traction with viewers, there will also be guest spots turned in by celebrity pals of the Thicke family. Joining in on the fun will be names such as Bob Saget, David Hasselhoff, and Bill Maher, among others.

One can probably assume we will not be seeing Cameron on the show, as Thicke is not a big fan of his former television son’s positions on a number of subjects, including homosexuality .
