What a difference a decade makes, indeed, as is evidenced by the dismay expressed by viewers of the viral video of a little boy cheerfully singing a song dubbed “Ain’t No Homos Gonna Make It To Heaven.”
Much like the children holding “God Hates Fags” signs at Westboro Baptist Church rallies, there’s something especially stomach-churningly sickening about seeing a small kid being forced to regurgitate the hate and bigotry of the adults who surround him, especially since he is ostensibly way too young to parse the negativity of what he’s been taught to say.
In the clip below, an adorable toddler takes the stage and begins to sing, much to the delight of the audience. But as he gets to the end of the song, the lyrics become clear. The toddler begins to sing that “ain’t no homos gonna make it to heaven,” and what happens next is even worse.
The minute the slur leaves the child’s mouth, the congregants erupt in a whooping cheer, not only praising the child’s hate speech, but reinforcing in his young mind that such talk is in any way endorsed by Jesus’ teachings. (In which he implored his followers to not judge, not cast stones at sinners, and to love their neighbors.)
The clip has gone viral due to its disturbing nature, (you can view the church’s Facebook page here ) but most of the comments on the clip are disapproving, and apparently the “ain’t no homos gonna make it to heaven” clip has been flagged as abusive and taken down numerous times- the tag now reads:
“DON’T FLAG THIS AS ABUSIVE. PEOPLE SHOULD BE ABLE TO VIEW FOR THEMSELVES THE FACE OF INTOLERANCE AND RELIGIOUS INDOCTRINATION AT IT’S WORST.”
As one commenter points out, if the “ain’t no homos gonna make it to heaven” kid disobeys his parents, do they plan to stone him as per the bible’s teachings?
