Agent Carter continues repelling viewers, even as critics continue promoting the Marvel Entertainment TV series on ABC.
Deadline Hollywood reported that audiences stayed away from the latest episode of Agent Carter, even as the series pulled out all the stops to attract them.
“But despite an unspoken Black Widow, the roar of the Howling Commandos and a cameo from Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan from the first Captain America pic and the AC Marvel One-Shot short, it still resulted in zero movement among adults 18-49. As a result, Agent Carter stayed even with last week and was third in its 9 PM time slot.”
The article later added that this episode of Agent Carter was “heavily promoted,” and even featured a sneak peak at the upcoming Daredevil series on Netflix, revealing just how poorly the episode performed.
Agent Carter is attracting so few viewers that TV by the Numbers predicts ABC will cancel it — and tells how this can happen to a show billed as a limited series.
“As the Cancellation Bear has noted many, many, many times, the mind tricks that the network PR Jedi are able to play with the term ‘limited series’ befuddle many fans. It behooves the PR Jedi to keep up the confusion, because when a limited series fails, they can spin its single season as the plan all along.”
The blog post explained that the term “limited series” refers to the “number of episodes per season” and not “a limited number of seasons.” It further explained that if a limited series does well, the network will renew it; if not, it will cancel it. And TV by the Numbers said the ratings on Agent Carter indicate the show is “likely to be canceled.”

Nevertheless, major media outlets and critics continue promoting Agent Carter .
Entertainment Weekly covered the drop in Agent Carter’s ratings from a perspective of how it will affect future “female Marvel heroes.”
Meanwhile, the Washington Post published a full-length profile of Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell, giving her ample opportunity to promote the show.
And the Wall Street Journal provided a lengthy review of the latest episode, relying more on summarizing what happened than heavily critiquing it.
Finally, Superhero Hype provided a glowing review of the latest episode of Agent Carter , with the author at one point declaring, “I want to be Peggy Carter when I grow up.”
So will the enthusiastic support among critics be enough to keep ABC from canceling Agent Carter even as the series has low ratings? Viewers will find out soon enough.
The Inquisitr previously reported on Agent Carter struggling with low ratings, even as ABC stood by the show at that time.
