Star running back Adrian Peterson will start for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday as the team takes on the Jacksonville Jaguars in their NFL season opener.
Vikings management announced Peterson’s opening roster placement via Twitter:
“He’s back! Adrian Peterson is active AND will start today for the #Vikings.”
Before the announcement Vikings management had called Adrian Peterson a “game-time decision”
Peterson was listed as questionable on the injury report, players on that report typically have a 50-50 chance of seeing game time. Peterson tore two ligaments in his left knee last Christmas Eve and has been rehabilitating his knee every since that time. Team officials said Peterson has experienced no setbacks in his recovery.
The two-time All-Pro pick had reconstructive surgery to repair the injury.
The biggest scare for Peterson this year has been a trip to the hospital after he suffered from a bad allergic reaction to seafood .
The Minnesota Vikings plan to limit Peterson’s carries to insure a smooth transition back into game play. Handling the majority of the Vikings’ carries will be running back Toby Gerhart.
In September 2011 Adrian Peterson signed a new $100 million contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings.
Do you think Adrian Peterson should let his knee rehabilitate further before returning to the NFL or will limited carries be good for his transition back into the game?
