Adam McKay has been discussing the production of the follow-up to his 2004 comedy, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

The sequel, entitled Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues , is expected to be released on December 20 2013, was announced by its star Will Ferrell, last year when he appeared on Conan O’Brien’s TBS talk show.

McKay told Empire magazine , regarding Ferrell, “If he wasn’t a giant A-hole, everything would be okay. By the end he’s got to be a little less of an A-hole, but that’s still a little hard for him to do.”

The director also revealed that he movie will not be set in New York City rather than San Diego, which is the home to the original, stating, “San Diego is too close to Ron’s heart to go away, but we feel that New York City is the holy grail for all newsmen.”

McKay also admitted that Steve Carell’s Brick Tamland will be increasingly erratic, adding, “Brick’s so far gone that you can’t have a relationship with him. It takes a special someone to get a rope snare around his heart. She is dangerous!”

Brick’s romantic partner will be played by Kristen Wiig, whose presence in the film was confirmed earlier this month by her co-star Christina Applegate via her Twitter account.

“So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for ‘Anchorman 2’. Going 2 b best movie ever made. Besides the best movies ever made,” tweeted the actress.

30 Rock star James Marsden is also set to play the nemesis to Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy in the sequel.
