Aaron Paul, the actor best known for his turn in the hit AMC series Breaking Bad , has been selected to star in the upcoming Need for Speed adaptation. According to Cinema Blend , producers had been looking for a relatively unknown actor to tackle the lead role in the upcoming action flick. Given that Paul has left on an impression on viewers with his turn as Jesse Pinkman on the aforementioned television drama, it would seem that the filmmakers are headed in a different direction.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Actor of Valor director Scott Waugh will direct the Need for Speed adaptation for the suits over at DreamWorks. Although Aaron Paul’s involvement suggests that producers are eager to sign established talent for the production, no other actors have been cast as of this writing. However, this is sure to change in the near future.

Screenwriting brothers George and John Gatins will handle the script, which is reportedly inspired by the video game franchise as opposed to being based on one particular entry. John Gatin will also produce the flick alongside Patrick O’Brien and Mark Sourian.

Now that Aaron Paul is finished with his obligations to Breaking Bad , the actor is looking to branch out into the world of motion pictures. In addition to the Need for Speed adaptation, Paul would love to star in the troubled big screen version of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower . According to Screen Crush , the man who was Jesse Pinkman would love nothing more than to tackle the role of Eddie Dean in the aforementioned project. Assuming, of course, that the production ever gets off the ground.

“Serious question: Who here doesn’t know ‘The Dark Tower’ series by Stephen King? If you don’t know it go get it now. You will thank me,” Paul said in a recent Twitter post. Needless to say, the actor is a fan of the books.

Do you think Aaron Paul is the right choice for the Need for Speed movie?
