Fans of the HBO show Game of Thrones may not have to wait quite as long to get their fix as they originally thought. While the new Game of Thrones season is still months away, a new announcement revealed that a behind-the-scenes special of the show will be airing in February of 2015.
According to i09 , the Game of Thrones special will be 30 minutes long and titled “A Day in the Life.” Presumably, the special will show fans how Game of Thrones is filmed, presenting a day in the life of the cast and crew. However, the popular Game of Thrones news site WinterIsComing.net claims that the special won’t be entirely behind-the-scenes. Rather, fans could expect the special to be more of a preview of Game of Thrones season 5, with a close look at the new characters and Houses coming to the show. According to Blast , a similar Game of Thrones special aired last year around the same time titled “Ice and Fire: A Foreshadowing.”
That interpretation of the Game of Thrones featurette does seem to contradict the title “A Day in the Life,” so fans will have to wait until February to get the real scoop. You can catch the rare Game of Thrones special and find out for yourself on February 8 at 7:30 pm eastern time.
Another possibility is that the special will recap previous events and plot points from Game of Thrones season 4 to prep viewers for the show’s triumphant return and build more hype, but Winter Is Coming doubts that prediction as well.
“That special, ‘ Ice and Fire: A Foreshadowing ,’ was not a ‘ Here’s What You’ve Missed On Game of Thrones’ special, but instead focused heavily on Season 4’s new characters and the major story lines going forward,” says Winter Is Coming. “ With [ Game of Thrones ] Season 5 adding in an entire major House this season, including a whole new segment of Westeros we’ve never been to that included filming in a whole new country, one could expect that this special is planning on doing the same thing.”
An official air date for Game of Thrones season 5 has yet to be announced, but the show’s creators have followed a trend of dates in the past. A debut trailer for the new Game of Thrones season is likely to appear online in January judging by past seasons, and the season premiere is likely to come sometime around April.
