It’s Shark Week , so maybe a dead shark discovered in New York City’s subway system is strangely appropriate.
A tipster told Gothamist that a fishy smell permeated the Queens-bound N train early Wednesday morning, and that it didn’t take long to determine the cause.
“I look down to the end of the car to see a dead shark on the floor. I think I stood there for a good minute just staring, thinking ‘Is this for real?! Oh come ON, NYC!’ ”
One of the other passengers remarked:
“I’ve been riding the subway for 15 years, and this is the weirdest thing I’ve seen. And I’ve seen EVERYTHING.”
The MTA confirmed the dead shark’s existence , and moved passengers out of the car.
“Upon arrival at Ditmars Boulevard, a Train Service Supervisor reported the shark was dead and he placed it in a garbage bag and disposed of it in the trash. The Road Car Inspector on duty at Ditmars Blvd. normalized the car and returned the train to customer service,” they said in an official statement.
An MTA spokesperson shrugged over the incident in a comment to the Huffington Post .
“Looks like a good promo for Shark Week on the Discovery Channel,” MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz said.
Authorities have not yet determined how the shark wound up on the subway in the first place. Seems obvious to us that he was just trying to catch his train to Queens like everyone else.
What do you think of the dead shark found on the New York City subway? Strangest thing you’ve ever seen?
