Doctor Strange has a new trailer, which was released at San Diego Comic-Con 2016. This is the second trailer for the film. An earlier one has been playing at movie theaters for weeks, while the new one just debuted during a panel on Saturday.

As with most Marvel movies, Doctor Strange has been very much anticipated by comic book fans, and the cast attached to this one is pretty impressive, so that has certainly helped build some hype for it. Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role with Tilda Swinton playing The Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor playing Baron Karl Mordo, Mads Mikkelsen playing Kaecilius, Rachel McAdams playing Christine Palmer, and Benedict Wong playing Wong. The film was directed by Scott Derrickson ( Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Deliver Us From Evil ), who also co-wrote the screenplay with C. Robert Cargill ( Sinister ).

Mashable reported that Marvel showed an extended scene in Hall H at Comic-Con, in which Doctor Strange first encounters The Ancient one in Tibet. The site describes the scene as follows.

“After mistaking an Asian man for the venerated healer and teacher, he begins a conversation with the real deal… that gets off on the wrong foot. That’s because Strange is, to put it mildly, kind of an a-hole. Cumberbatch (using a deep, gravely American accent) is haggard, desperate, on his last dollar and in search of the person who has apparently reversed a man’s paralysis. When he finds her, he is deeply skeptical — even hostile — about her mystical explanations. Strange is cynical, cantankerous and at times, downright mean. “I’ve seen those in a gift shop,” he snarls at the Chi and acupuncture schematics she shows him. When he gets pushy with The Ancient One, she pushes back. So hard, in fact, that he’s sent into another plane.”

Doctor Strange also got a new poster out of Comic-Con, which the official account for the movie has been showing of on social media:

Marvel also showed some of the movie’s costumes at the event:

Even before Comic-Con, we’ve been learning more and more about the characters in Doctor Strange . For example, Benedict Wong, who actually plays the character named Wong from the comics, will be bringing a somewhat different take on the character.

Den of Geek recently quoted him as saying, “I’m certainly not going to be the tea-making manservant. We’re heading in a different direction. He’s more of a drill sergeant. There isn’t any martial arts for Wong in Doctor Strange actually, he’s more of a drill sergeant to Kamar-Taj. He’s one of the masters of sorcery.”

Last month, Mads Mikkelsen talked about his character in Doctor Strange (Kaecilius) with Yahoo Movies , saying, “He’s not a villain in that way – he’s a man who believes in something else than the hero. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to make the planet look wonderful or he wants to save the world as well, but he has a different way of doing it. He is the antagonist, of course, but he’s not necessarily wrong.”

Here’s a video in which Mikkelsen discusses how the character compares to his most famous role to date as Hannibal on the TV show of the same name.

Doctor Strange has always been a pretty unique title in the Marvel Universe, and it sounds like the movie will keep that tradition. Personally, I’m wondering if it will contribute to new interest in Full Moon’s Doctor Mordrid , which actually began its life as a Doctor Strange movie. Producer Charles Band had optioned Doctor Strange, but that option had expired before he was able to make the movie. The project was rewritten as Doctor Mordrid .

Doctor Strange will be released on November 4, 2016. It’s the next theatrical release from Marvel Studios.
