Get ready to get up close and personal with Beyonce. A forthcoming documentary about the singer and her extraordinary life is coming to the small screen.
The feature length film will present exclusively on HBO on February 16, 2013. The 16-times Grammy award winner is not only starring in the documentary, she’s also directing and executive producing it.
Pitched as a chance for viewers to see behind the curtain on the star’s private life and public performances, the film should interest not only Beyonce fans but celebrity voyeurs in general.
Speaking about the project, Michael Lombardo, HBO programming president said:
“Everybody knows Beyonce’s music, but few know Beyonce the person. Along with electrifying footage of Beyonce onstage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman.”
Variety reports that Beyonce released a statement saying some of her “favorite shows are on HBO” and that the network “has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity.”
The Texan native continued, “I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home.”
News that Beyonce and her representatives were shopping a ‘warts and all’ documentary to Hollywood studios first surfaced in August . As of today, we all now know that home became HBO.
For those wondering what kind of content they might see in the documentary, as well as the other big dates in her diary — like having a daughter, Blue Ivy, in January, and a run of four return gigs in Atlantic City, NJ. in May — that was just the first half of the year.
On August 19, Beyonce recorded a special video for her song “I was Here” (co-written with Diane Warren) for the United Nations World Humanitarian Day initiative in New York, in front of a live audience.
Then, in September, the singer hosted a a pre-election fundraising party for President Barack Obama alongside husband Jay-Z at his 40/40 club in New York.
2013 will bring a hectic first few months for the songstress. The documentary will premiere less than two weeks after she performs at the halftime show during the Super Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans on February 3.
A busy woman, and a busy life. Next February, viewers will get to see exactly how she does it.
