WWE News: Samoa Joe Says Conor McGregor Is Just Promoting Himself

Published on: August 17, 2016 at 10:17 AM

There has been a lot of talk about the Conor McGregor WWE insults. Many WWE stars, including Roman Reigns and “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, answered the insults with slams of their own. CM Punk said he thought everyone was being stupid. Now, another WWE name has put in his two sense and pretty much agrees with CM Punk about one thing. Forbes reported that Samoa Joe said that Conor McGregor’s WWE comments were just the UFC fighter promoting himself .

When Forbes writer Alfred Konuwa asked Samoa Joe about Conor McGregor and his comments, Samoa Joe was very blunt about his thoughts about McGregor. Samoa Joe said he could care less about Conor.

“I think Conor McGregor is a promoter, and I’m not here to promote any of his fights. If he were here in WWE, that would be a different story, but until that happens I don’t feel like I need to address it.”

The Samoa Joe comments sound slightly similar to what CM Punk said about the Conor McGregor WWE comments. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Punk said that McGregor was simply trolling the WWE, and men like Ric Flair especially should have known better before starting a Twitter war with the UFC star.

It all makes sense because Conor McGregor next fights Nate Diaz in a rematch on August 20. McGregor knows that he can make more money when more people tune into his fights. Samoa Joe has a good point. By taking on the entire WWE Universe, and becoming a heel in the eyes of WWE fans, he can get many of them to pay for UFC 202 in hopes of seeing him get beaten for the second time in a row.

It isn’t just the WWE that Conor McGregor is targeting in his recent rants. He has also insulted the UFC featherweight roster in a recent interview. After Dana White said that Conor would have to return to the featherweight division to defend his title there, he said that he wasn’t sure if he would and that the entire featherweight division is praying he doesn’t.

Conor McGregor also talked to Fox Sports and said that UFC 200 bombed because he wasn’t on the card. The McGregor vs. Diaz rematch was supposed to be at UFC 200, but his match was pulled when Conor refused to do pre-match press conferences to promote the show. Like Samoa Joe mentioned, it looks like McGregor is going full speed on promoting now, although he is doing it in his own special way.

While many people thought that the Conor McGregor WWE comments were a way to slowly introduce Conor to the WWE crowds and possibly insert him into the promotion when he leaves the UFC, there is a better reason. Samoa Joe pointed it out when he called McGregor a promoter.

While Ric Flair said that McGregor owes his career to copying his WWE style, Yahoo Sports reported that Conor said that he is just being himself .

“This ain’t no gimmick. This is the real [expletive]. I’ve gotta get in and fight a man for real. With no script, with no nothing. He was talking about bringing some other wrestler guys out to challenge me. Come bring it, then. This is the real [expletive] over here. You want to come over, we can fight, no problem.”

Conor McGregor became a million dollar prize fighter in the UFC because of his WWE-styled antics. His mouth and arrogance have helped make him someone that many people want to see shut up and many others love because of his arrogance. As Samoa Joe says, Conor McGregor is best at promoting himself.
