Wonder Woman is breaking into the comic book movie scene as the first trailer got released from the Amazonian’s upcoming movie.

Warner Bros. surprised fans with the trailer at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday (July 23).

“Can’t express how excited I am to see my journey come to life! Hope you all enjoy <3,” read a tweet by the film’s star, Gal Gadot. She also shared a new promotional poster for the upcoming film. The tagline reads “Power. Grace. Wisdom. Wonder.”

In the two-minute clip, viewers see Wonder Woman (Gadot) wielding her sword toward enemies and throwing around her famous lasso. There’s also scenes with the superheroine’s fellow Amazonians going to war on their island, Themyscira (also known as Paradise Island).

In the comic book series, Steve Trevor serves as Wonder Woman’s primary love interest, and it seems that the tradition will follow in the film as well. The trailer opens up with Trevor washing up on Themyscira, becoming the first male that Wonder Woman has ever seen. Later she decides to head out into the world to discover everything else that she has yet to set her eyes on. But, that doesn’t mean she’s letting go of her warrior’s mentality.

Later on in the trailer, Wonder Woman delivers a powerful line towards Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, about following her own will. When he expresses that he “can’t let” her do something that’s likely dangerous, she responds with a clear cut message. “What I do is not up to you,” she tells him.

It’s been a long time coming for the Amazonian princess to make it onto the big screen. Wonder Woman made her first appearance in All Star Comics #8 in December 1941. Inspired by Greek mythology, Wonder Woman’s origins place her as a clay figure brought to life by Olympian deities (in the film’s trailer, she shares that she was brought to life by Zeus — not too far from the comic book that later described her as the king of the gods’ daughter).

Wonder Woman made her film debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , earlier this year . With her upcoming eponymous film, Wonder Woman joins the small group of superpowered female characters to get their own film which includes Supergirl in 1984 and Catwoman in 2004 .

The latest film is a part of Warner Bros. and DC’s plan that leads up to Zack Snyder’s Justice League , a film scheduled to hit theaters in 2017. In the film, Wonder Woman will join A-list superheroes including Superman, Batman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg. The trailer for this was also released at this year’s Comic-Con .

Patty Jenkins is in the director’s chair for Wonder Woman . She’s best known for writing and directing 2003’s Monster , a bio-pic of a Aileen Wuornos, prostitute turned serial killer.

Jenkins, who’s been advocating for a Wonder Woman movie for years, explained her thought process for the movie to the San Diego Comic-Con crowd. “Why do white men get to be universal and everyone else has to be a smaller story?” she asked.

As for Wonder Woman’s character, Jenkins shared that she plans on making her multi-faceted. “She is fierce. I’m not worried about that,” said Jenkins said about the question of Wonder Woman appearing “too masculine” or “too feminine,” according to Time . “She’s also vulnerable, loving, falls in love, which is what we’ve always done to Superman. So that’s the thing that I cared the most about. It’s a universal story.”

The Wonder Woman trailer comes a few days after the titular character celebrated her 75th anniversary. To celebrate, Wonder Woman is gaining her own line of postage stamps .

Wonder Woman is slated to hit theaters on June 2, 2017.
