This morning Chris Brown tweeted that he’s quitting music and that his upcoming album will be the last. Or at least he’s probably quitting. Maybe.
It’s only the latest in a series of sad, depressed tweets that the 24-year-old R&B singer has sent out to his Twitter followers over the past few days. I’ve posted quite a few of them down below.
They started out with cryptic, pseudo-inspirational observations like, “U are what u eat???? Nah!!! You are who u feed! We are one.” But they quickly moved into darker territory with comments like, “They don’t know about us and they don’t know s*** about me.”
But on Tuesday morning Chris Brown tweeted that he may quit music: “Don’t worry, mainstream America. After this X album, it’ll probably be my last album.”
He followed up with: “Being famous is amazing when it’s for ur music and talent. I’m tired of being famous for a mistake I made when I was 18.”
Brown has not had an easy time of it lately. A ridiculously minor auto accident has blown up in his face, causing the Los Angeles prosecutor to seize on the chance to revoke his probation. He has already pleaded not guilty to the hit-and-run which he said didn’t happen, but he is supposed to report for his booking and mugshot sometime today.
UPDATE: Multiple media sources including MTV said that Chris Brown checked in a day early for his booking to avoid photographers. He was free in 45 minutes with no bail required.

Album X is scheduled to be released on August 20. However, I honestly think these tweets are more than a publicity stunt.
I think he’s really depressed. Anybody would be.
I think if fans want to keep hearing Chris Brown’s music, it might be time to reach out and let him know. Everybody makes mistakes. True, his mistake was pretty big.
But what positive purpose is served by Chris Brown quitting music?
