While many fans are waiting the announcement that Mortal Kombat X may include Spawn as a playable character, it has been announced by NetherRealm Studios that the Predator will now be a playable character in the game. The character, a recognizable antagonist from the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film of the same name, will be available to those who buy the premium edition of the game along with ’80s horror icon Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th slasher horror films.
Gamers who pick up the premium edition of the game will have early access to a total of four new characters before anyone else, but Warner Bros. has said that the last two will be “Klassic Mortal Kombat characters.” Hope is now dwindling that gamers will see Spawn as a part of the game that will be coming out April 14, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be a future add on that can be purchased by players of the game. However, some fans are disappointed that they will be paying $60 for a game and not getting any special characters while those who have the extra funds can get the premium edition with more characters.
Recently, NetherRealm Studios also revealed that there will be a new finisher in the game that they call a “Quitality.” If two players are playing an online match with one another, and one player exits the game prematurely or, for example, their connection to the server gives out, their characters head will explode and give the remaining player the instant win. The concept of the “quitality,” according to NetherRealm developer Derek Kirtzic, is to reward players who have been abandoned in-game by their opponent. He spoke to PolyGon about the “quitality.”
“It’s really more [about] making the winner look better.”
Kirtzic wanted to focus on rewarding the people who are the subject of abandonment instead of focusing on punishing the ones responsible for the abandonment, especially because it is not always the players fault that they leave the game, sometimes experiencing connection problems with their internet or the game server itself.
The new game presents itself cinematically and allows players to become more immersed in the gameplay than ever before. NetherRealm has taken advantage of everything that the new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have to offer for Mortal Kombat X showcasing a story featuring some of the Mortal Kombat franchises most popular characters, including Sub-Zero and Scorpion.
Mortal Kombat X will see release on current generation consoles April 14 and will be released later this summer for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
