Kendall Jenner Wants To Be ‘Left Alone,’ But Also A Famous Model

Kendall Jenner has a dilemma. She wants to be a famous and successful model. She also wants privacy.

Kendall Jenner is only recently famous for being a half-sibling of Kim Kardashian and a rising co-star on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but it sounds like she’s ready to hand her fame back so she can be a “normal kid” for just five minutes.

The 17-year-old opened up in a recent interview with Cosmopolitan about her struggle with the spotlight, but doesn’t seem to realize that the price of fame is usually privacy.

“The show brought us everything we have, and I realize that, but sometimes I just want to be left alone and be a normal kid for like five minutes,” She tells the mag. “That’s tough when the paparazzi are chasing you.”

She apparently thinks that she might be able to shake some of the interest in her life by avoiding her own spin-off reality show with 15-year-old sister Kylie Jenner . “That’s not happening,” she said of the spin-off rumors. “Modeling is my number one priority — one hundred percent.”

That’s great, and kudos to Kendall for turning down “cheap” fame in favor of “work” fame, but one can’t help but wonder if she understands that it’s nearly impossible to have your cake and eat it too when you’re under the spotlight.

We’re not the only ones wondering, either. Crushable criticized Kendall today on these same points, arguing that the naive 17-year-old “continues to make confusing statements about her career and her life to publications,” and that for “the second time in just a few weeks, she’s expressed her need for privacy while simultaneously doing something very public.”

They point out (accurately) that the solution to Kendall’s problems is pretty straightforward .

“Stop modeling. Stop doing interviews. Stop posting everything to your social media accounts. It’s amazing how little the press can find out when you stop talking to them.”

(She did tweet about the very same interview/photoshoot in which she says she wants to be left alone like three times)

Indeed, what Kendall seems to be missing here is that celebrities who have anything resembling privacy don’t have it the same way that non-famous people do. Any celebrity that does only enjoys it because they have an incredibly talented team working for them to protect it at all times.

We can appreciate Kendall’s desire for “work” fame instead of “cheap” fame, and wanting to make a name for herself outside of the Kardashian conglomerate. But she’s really going to need a reality check from outside of her family, who are absolutely fame-hungry, but also better suited for it.

You just can’t have your cake and eat it too when you’re under the spotlight, kiddo.

Wow, I did not expect to get that philosophical about Kendall Jenner today.
