The Kendrick Lamar/J. Cole project, for now, is just rumor. However, neither side has come forth in denial. Drake and Future’s mixtape situation was similar. Could it influence the youth in a different way?

It started out as a rumor, but word travels faster than ever via the internet. Next thing you know, What a Time to Be Alive dropped and fans were excited. Although hip hop fans are still recovering from Drake and Future’s release, everyone is abuzz with speculation about a new, alleged collaboration between Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole.

According to Design & Trend the Reminiscing rumor started via Twitter.

During an interview earlier this year, Kendrick sat down with Hot 97 and discussed the definiteness of the future collaboration. Vibe reported that the rapper quoted as follows.

“Yeah, definitely. I still would love to do it. I talked to the bro [J. Cole] about a little bit over a month and he’s on the tour rocking. So we’re gonna try and make something happen. They want that.”

However, at that time, he felt that it wasn’t their moment yet. Well, it’s six months later and it’s possible that things have changed. As mentioned by Hollywood Life , the Kendrick and Cole album could be deemed “legendary” if it were to seriously be released.

The two musical artists have support from several fellow artists. In July, Janet Jackson even posted, via Twitter, that she was in attendance at J. Cole’s concert. From the looks of things, it was “girl’s night out.”

In hindsight and foresight, Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole have collaborated on a few tracks in the past, such as “Forbidden Fruit” and “ Temptation .” These could give listeners an idea of what to expect from the album. Reminiscing would set a new, uncharted landmark in this generation’s mainstream hip hop projects — especially if it would be anything like K. Dot’s To Pimp a Butterfly .

Unfortunately, “Temptation” isn’t a track that was released in studio form. However, as rumor has it — much like the rumor of the studio collaboration — many believe it will be one of the features on the album.

While yet awaiting its drop, in an even bigger point in the duo’s collaboration, J. Cole recently spoke to Saint Heron about Lamar’s influence . In that interview, Cole states that K. Dot’s music is so influential in his city, it could possibly put an end to gang violence, no matter the colors.

That’s what’s needed, right?
